A History of Boeido
Boeido (pronounced bo-ay-doh) literally translates as 'The Way of Defence'. It is a highly effective amalgamation of the different martial styles Si-Gung Adrian Blake has practised over many years, taking the most effective moves and training techniques from different styles of Karate and Kung Fu, and combining them with key elements and concepts from Aikido, Western Boxing, Groundfighting, Chin Na, Krav Maga, and other martial disciplines.
These have all been blended with the Yang Form of T'ai Chi Chuan, at its root, truly one of the most devastating martial arts in the world. It may look slow and soft, and is often taught only as 'moving meditation', but if taught and studied in its entirety it allows the practitioner to use their own body and movement in a devastating way, allowing nullification of an opponent of any size and skill. It's a hard concept to visualise, but it's one that you will learn and go on to respect with Boeido. It is one of the key elements that separates us from other styles.

As well as running 'Street System' workshops for black belts from numerous styles, Adrian has also led seminars for members of the Territorial Army, the Metropolitan Police, HM Prison Service, Door Supervisors and for professional fighters.
Boeido is definitely more than just training to fight. Anyone can learn to punch, but it's the 'how', 'when' and 'why' that are the important parts of the equation.
We teach and reinforce a combat philosophy:
'The Five A's'
Awareness- being alert in order to appreciate your surroundings.
Avoidance- leave those surroundings immediately if you feel you're in any danger.
Assertiveness- if facing danger, and you cannot escape, be confident and authoritative.
Action- if action must be taken, be quick, direct and effective.
Adaptation- once a conflict has begun, be prepared to change your techniques, as the situation can change around you.
"Those who win one hundred triumphs in one hundred conflicts do not have supreme skill.
Those who have supreme skill use strategy to bend others without coming to conflict…"
